Abstract: Song technique is a technique that used to deliver the materials in teaching learning process. This paper is dedicated for teachers in Indonesia to use the song technique to deliver the materials of the lesson in teaching learning process. The research show that the students are easy to memoryze the materials and they can achieve into higher score by using the song technique.

INTRODUCTION
As an international language, English is the one of language that very important and popular all over the world, including Indonesia. In Indonesia English is a foreign language (EFL). In the past English was only taught as secondary school. In current years English is not only as a secondary school, but it is dedicated for primary or elementarry school setting. Moreover, English is also dedicated for nursery school setting. It means that English is very important to follow the developing of the world.

In the process of teaching children, there are several principles that must be considered for teaching children. The first, we have to consider the cognitive interactions principle of the children. Secondly we have to consider the social interactions principle of the children. And the last we have to consider the characteristics of the children. (Fauziati, 2010:90).
Teaching English for children is the one of way to prepare the children. The one of technique that can be used in teaching English for children is song technique. Song technique is the one of technique to teach the children. The function is to maintain the children’s interest and to make the teaching and learning process enjoyable , so the children will feel enjoy and fun to follow the lesson. And finally, they are easily to memorize the materials that given by the teacher. The good song is the song that familiar in children’s culture.
This paper will discuss about the way of using song technique in teaching children, process of using song technique, result of using song technique, and problems of using song technique in teaching children.
METHOD
This research was done by applying song technique in the teaching learning process. The techniques in this research were focused on improving the student’s English ability using this technique.
The participants of this research were the students of elementary school. Exactly 60 students that state on two classes, they are the fifth year student on state elementary school Banyuurip 1, Boyolali. A class consisst of 30 students.
The instruments are kinds of song, the lyrics, tape recorder, and DVD player. There are two kinds of lyrics, the first is original lyrics of the song that popular by the students and secondly the modified lyrics of the song.
Based on Rajan’s criteria, song technique is a good technique that consist of good materials. There are several aspects of Rajan’s criteria:
1. Motivate and Meaningful.
2. Authentic and Appropriate.
3. Graphic and Graded.
4. Interesting, Interactive, and Integrated.
5. Contextualized and creative.
It was predicted that song technique will make the students more easy to memoryze the materials of the lesson in the teaching learning process.
The study was started by introducing the original song that well known by the students. And then they have to change the original lyrics into simple English so that they are easily memorized. In choosing new lyrics teachers have to consider the words and structures which are in the current level of the student’s proficiency.
RESULT AND DISCUSSION
The data result shows that the students can develop into higher level within song technique. They can get high score after use the song technique. And the data shows that the student who use song method easier to accept and memorize the materials of the lesson than the students who didn’t use the song technique.
Pre-Test
The pre-test here used as a parameter that function is to know about the condition of the students before using song technique. The researcher can know the English ability of the students by this activity.
Before using song technique the sudents can not achieve into higher level or score because the previous technique is not good technique. The students can not memorize the materials of the lesson well. The students only can achieve the score into 60%.
While using song method
We got the data that the students are very enthusiasm during using song technique. Because the song technique is a good technique that very interesting and consist of good materials. The song technique consist of several aspects from Rajan’s criteria.
1. Motivate and Meaningful
The song technique can motivate the students to learn and to improve their English ability.
2. Authentic and Appropriate
The teacher give examples of good pronunciation from the song. And the materials is adjusted with the learner’s need.
3. Graphic And Graded
The delivering of the materials are systematically arrange, so it can make the process of teaching learning effectively.
4. Interesting, Interactive, and Integrated
The song technique consist of materials that very interesting in the process of teaching learning. It gives the opportunities for students to use their existing knowledge and skill
5. Contextualized and Creative
The materials suitable with the situation and condition of the students. And ic can make the students creative because during using song technique, the students and the teacher have to change or modify the lyrics of the song into simple english.
A strategy for teaching song to elementary children:
1. When you are teaching a song to children, provide several opportunities for them to hear the original song before they ever try to sing it. This can be done by either the teacher singing the song for the students or by listening to a recording of it.
2. Change or modify the original lyrics into simple English.
For example:
The Original lyrics
Mary had a little lamb, little lamb, little lamb
Mary had a little lamb, it’s fleece was white as snow
And every where that Mary went, Mary went, Mary went
And every where that Mary went; the lamb was sure to go.
The modified lyrics
Mary has a little cat, kitty cat, pretty cat
Mary has a pretty cat; the cat is eating fish
Mary has a little dog, puppy dog, pretty dog
Mary has a pretty dog; the dog is eating meat.
3. Sing the song 1 phrase at a time, asking the children to sing after you each time.
For example:
Teacher: Mary has a little cat
Students: Mary has a little cat
Teacher: kitty cat, pretty cat
Students: kitty cat, pretty cat
Teacher: Mary has a pretty cat
Students: Mary has a pretty cat
Teacher: the cat is eating fish
Students: the cat is eating fish etc.
4. Repeat this process doubling up the phrases.
For example:
Teacher: Mary has a little cat, kitty cat, pretty cat
Students: Mary has a little cat, kitty cat, pretty cat
Teacher: Mary has a pretty cat; the cat is eating fish
Students: Mary has a pretty cat; the cat is eating fish
Teacher: Mary has a little dog, puppy dog, pretty dog
Students: Mary has a little dog, puppy dog, pretty dog
Teacher: Mary has a pretty dog; the dog is eating meat
Students: Mary has a pretty dog; the dog is eating meat.
5. Sing the complete song, ask the students to repeat it all.
Mary has a little cat, kitty cat, pretty cat
Mary has a pretty cat; the cat is eating fish
Mary has a little dog, puppy dog, pretty dog
Mary has a pretty dog; the dog is eating meat.
6. Finally allow class to sing alone with no support.
Post-Test
The final result of the post-test shows that majority of total participants are understand and easy to memorize the materials that given by the teacher. The data shows that the students can achieve into higher score. The students can achieve score into 96% after using song technique in the teaching learning process.
CONCLUSION
Based on the research, song technique is a good technique that consist of good materials. The delivering of the materials are very interesting because the materials are delivered by sing the song. This method can attract students and of course bring fun and enjoyable atmosphere in the classroom.
The problem of using song technique is sometime seen that teaching with song technique is not effective. Because not all of student can enjoy the song itself, especially for them whose have problem in their listening. It’s only appropriate with guidance of active and attractive teacher to deliver the material using this technique.
This paper is dedicated for techers in Indonesia to use the song technique in the teaching learning process. The teachers should be creative in the teaching learning process
